‘She can’t do this to you,’ he says through gritted teeth. ‘It isn’t fair!’
‘There’s nothing we can do,’ I say. More tears leak out of my eyes but I ignore them, pretend they aren’t there. I grab his arm and gently start pulling him towards the door. ‘Please, Liam. Let’s just go. No more trouble.’
Liam glares at Principal Hart for another couple of seconds. Then he turns away and walks with me out the door. I can’t really see anymore, but Liam guides me out so I don’t run into anything.
I keep holding onto his arm even after we’ve left the office because he’s the only thing I have anymore.”
